How to stack a tiered cake
A simpler, more secure way to stack your cakes
The Sturdy Cake Stackers cake stacking system takes the hard work out of stacking tiered cakes. A strong central pipe runs through the pre-cut cake boards, cake cards and tiers, helping to keep your finished cake stable, secure and beautifully stacked.
There's no need to hammer a wooden dowel through the top of your finished cake, and no need to cut holes yourself. Our cake boards and cake cards are supplied pre-cut, ready to work with the Sturdy Cake Stackers system — no cutting knives or power tools required!
Simply choose the right board and card sizes for your cake, measure and cut the central pipe, then stack your prepared cake tiers into place.
Take a look at our video below, or see thestep by step photos for a quick start guide.
How it works
Four steps, about five minutes
- 01
Cut the pipe to length
Measure against your stacked tiers and trim the 60cm food-safe pipe with a saw or sharp knife.
- 02
Fix the base
Push the insert into your bottom board and use the four sticky pads to stop the whole thing shifting.
- 03
Thread the tiers on
Each pre-cut board and card drops straight over the pipe. The cake becomes one piece, not four.
- 04
Drive
Nothing slides, nothing leans. Lift the whole cake out at the other end and remove the support.

Still dowel your cake as normal. The Stacker carries the cake through the journey; dowels carry the weight of the tiers. You need both.
